The Quality Healthcare Kenyan Awards (QHKA) in partnership with Amref Health Africa in Kenya honored the excellence and innovation of RockHealth Integrated Care Org (RICO) in improving primary healthcare as an important tenet in achieving universal health coverage.
Congratulations are in order to our very own Mr. Juma Theophilus, the Managing Director, RICO as he was on 7th June, 2019 shortlisted as one of the top three finalists a result of his continued leadership in providing quality healthcare and improving accessibility to primary healthcare services. A panel decision will be announced on 3rd July, 2019 during a Gala Dinner that is scheduled to take place at the exotic Radisson Blu Hotel. With Kenya gearing up to achieve universal health coverage by 2022, stakeholders such as RICO are steadily building on the milestones achieved so far while addressing the gaps that have been pointed out as potential hindrance to achieving this master plan. All these efforts are premised on the provision of health as a basic right as enshrined in the Kenyan constitution.
With the advent of universal health coverage, there is a risk of providing health services of lower quality if primary healthcare is not fortified. While this award targets to appreciate an effort by organizations to provide similar or higher quality health services even with reduced costs to acquiring it, it serves as a reminder that quality, in similar weight to affordability and accessibility, is a pertinent pillar of universal health coverage in Kenya.
It is RICO’s hope that this being the first step in the right direction, the organization will acquire enough thrust to take the standards a notch higher in service delivery.
