A 285 kilometer drive from the capital city of Nairobi to the upper Eastern part of Kenya one would come across the beautiful hills, valleys, acacia trees and the Savannah grasslands. The road is tarmac giving the globetrotter a smooth drive to this part of the country that is Isiolo County. Isiolo county borders Garissa to the east, Wajir to the north east, Meru to the south west, Samburu to the east and Marsabit to the north west, with Kitui and Tana River counties to the south west and south east giving out a good opportunity for inter trade in the region.
BACKGROUND, PROBLEM, AIM & OBJECTIVES
The ‘Strengthening Primary Health Care and Response to Epidemics’ project is based on the integrative, needs-based health care delivery and community oriented patient care that RockHealth Integrated Care Organization (RICO) holds dearly. The project focuses on infectious and non-communicable diseases. The approach to both is predominantly through early screening and instituting relevant treatment to particularly, infectious diseases while also providing preventative health education against both diseases.
To conduct a screening and treatment camp and a feeding programme that will suffice as a pilot study ahead of long-term engagements with the county administration to salvage the crises.
1. Food insecurity and malnutrition
To mobilize food donations
To provide food supplements in the field pharmacy
Introduce some households to crop farming through education and capacity building
Endemic disease conditions
Work with Community Health Volunteers (CHVs) in educating livestock keepers on how to identify warning signs of brucellosis.
Provision of general consultation for common infections in the field hospital and referral of complicated clinical cases.
Avail diagnostic tools for the identification in the make-shift lab.
2. Limited and distant health care facilities
To collect information on level of accessibility and quality of primary health care services to inform recommendations and discussions with the county government and the ministry of health.
To mobilize resources for the refurbishing of available health facilities and possibly, establish one.
Work with CHVs to educate the community on the importance of immunization and adhering to full schedule
3. Unsustainable projects
Work with the local administration of the county so as to engage in future collaboration and sustainability.
Partner with other healthcare organizations
Analyze the prescription forms and publish a report
Limited, outdated set of data To provide an analysis of the findings from the project so as to augment available information.

Target Beneficiaries: All Gender, All ages and a target of 2000 patients in total.
